Currently under construction and expected to open in 2007, this 8,400 square foot, two-story medical facility houses a thriving ophthalmologist practice and optical shop, designed as a place filled with light and visions, it has achieve a patient-oriented, modern, and high-tech flow of space. Given the challenges posed by the design, being an existing shell space with a predetermined size and windows encompassing the entire perimeter, Cockrill Design & Planning’s team of professionals created a series of clean and simple, yet sophisticated, features that achieved a well-designed and light-filled space.

Key features of the project include clean circulation paths throughout the practice for patient and staff movement; high-tech, yet simple interiors which include wall reveals, glass walls, tech-zone ceilings, and flat panel displays; a large, open practice entry, which encompasses a 10-foot aquarium and steel and glass-railing staircase; exterior views from all main hallways; and central gathering locations.

Cockrill Design & Planning’s goal of this project is to create a highly-functional and sophisticated two-story facility that is visually connected from the upper to the lower levels. The design team has achieved this goal with a large open atrium and concrete, steel, and glass stairway that connects the two.
