Tennessee Bicentennial Capitol Mall

Nashville, TN

Construction Cost: $59,000,000
Completion Date: 1996.01

To commemorate Tennessee’s 200th birthday, a comprehensive master plan for the entire Capitol Hill area was developed and an appropriate design for an outdoor landmark directly north was conceived. The result of this effort was the Bicentennial Mall, a 19-acre urban park that includes an expansive granite map of the state, 31-fountain Riverwall, 2000-seat amphitheater, 1400-foot-long History Wall, and 95-bell Tennessee Carillon, all to honor the unique qualities and heritage of Tennessee. Largest urban park built in Nashville in over 100 years, the mall preserves a dramatic view of William Strickland’s celebrated 1859 Greek Revival statehouse.
