Eagleton Elementary School

Blount County, TN

Construction Cost: $7,130,000
Completion Date: 1998

As Principal-in-Charge, David was charged with the delivery of two new elementary schools in short order, opening at the start of successive school years. Having executed a design contract in February of 2000, the fi rst school opened in the Fall of 2001; a total of only eighteen months from programming to occupancy. The schedule required a phased approach to design and construction. Working closely with the general contractor, a design approach was developed that facilitated an early start of site work and the fabrication of a pre-engineered structural frame well before design was complete.

Each school of approximately 115,000 gross square feet is designed with a core capacity for an enrollment of 1000 students. Total project costs (fees, FF&E, permits, contingencies, etc.) is approximately $91 per square foot with actual “bricks and mortar” costs of approximately $62 per square foot. A full educational program is facilitated by the new design to include: Pre-Kindergarten, Special Education (CDC & LRE), Media Center, Computer Labs, complete cooking kitchen, non-competition gym, along with 49 age-appropriate classrooms. The new schools incorporate a geothermal energy source for its heating and cooling needs.
