Oak Ridge City Signage

Oak Ridge, TN

Construction Cost: $130,000
Completion Date: 2007.08

In conjunction with the Westridge Concept Plan Study, CDP led the initiative to develop a comprehensive signage language for the City of Oak Ridge. The design intent is aimed at creating a unified signage vocabulary integrating both the significant history and promising future of the city as well as its proximity to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Four hierarchal tiers of city-wide signage, including monumental gateways, community markers, way-finders, and building signage, are designed in a uniform language reminiscent of mid-century architecture. Most prominent of the collection are the entry portals comprised of modern course stone integrated with high-tech materials. These monumental gateways complete with historic markers and landscaped with native vegetation, will be located at major entry points to the city and will include visitor parking areas.

Inspired by the fascinating history of Oak Ridge and hinting to its promising future at the cutting-edge of research and technology, the indigenous stones and plants bring the sign and the city home to the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains
