This new facility serves as the University’s main library housing more than 1.4 million bound volumes. The 195,000 assignable square feet includes 4,500 double-faced stack units and 2,100 seats in various study and lounge areas. The four-story facility features a full height atrium and rotunda at the main entrance on the west elevation facing a student plaza and pedestrian axis. The facility also serves as a government documents depository, and houses a special collections department that serves as the manuscript depository and rare books room. Other programmed departments will address a full range of activities such as: reference, circulation, microfilm, periodicals, bibliographic lab, acquisitions, computer operations, and 85,000 s.f. of stack/reader space. The facility is designed to meet Zone III seismic design.
