Algood Elementary School

Algood, TN

Construction Cost: $14,200,000
Completion Date: 2009.07

Our primary design driver was to create a school that would be a tool for learning, with an emphasis on smart, cost-effective strategies that improve quality of life and achievement of students and teachers.

The school is situated on the site of the existing Algood Middle School. The configuration of the new school creates a K-8 campus of two neighboring schools arranged around a common courtyard space featuring outside classrooms and playgrounds. The building incorporates sustainable design strategies, including an emphasis on natural daylight and views. The building's circulation also employs daylight and views to increase security and simplify wayfinding. The design includes niches and benches along the main corridors and common spaces, creating informal teaching spaces.
