Currently under construction, the Algood Elementary School is the first of three new schools Cockrill Design & Planning is designing for Putnam County, Tennessee. The 110,000 sf facility will accommodate 600 students, and features a media center, dining facility, and gymnasium. It is scheduled to open in fall of 2009. The primary design goal of this school is to create spaces that inspire children to learn. The building incorporates sustainable design strategies, including an emphasis on natural daylight and views. The school is situated on the site of the existing Algood K-8 School, which will become a middle school. This creates a K-8 campus of two neighboring schools arranged around a common courtyard space. The two schools will share athletic fields and other site elements.
