A brand new concept for Putnam County, this project combines a pre-K through 4th elementary school with a 5th through 8th middle school. The result is two independent grade structures each with separate entrances, administrative offices, classroom wings, gymnasiums, libraries, and cafeteria spaces. Centralized to both is a single shared kitchen, support spaces for the two libraries, and a 1000-seat auditorium. The program is arranged into 5 parallel bars connected through a centralized circulation spine. Efficiencies are achieved through combining the schools while providing the elementary school access to program spaces such as art classrooms and the auditorium which they otherwise would not have. New South Elementary and Middle School is set to break ground fall 2009 with doors opening fall 2010.
