Cockrill Design & Planning is currently designing a 13,000 square foot rural prototype medical clinic for Cherokee Health Systems. The facility, per the Cherokee Health model, houses both medical and behavioral health providers in an integrated manner. Both modes of healthcare share the same patient corridors, with the medical exam areas separated into suites to provide greater privacy as well as enhance the flow of patients and caregivers. The building is oriented on an east-west axis and allows for south facing clerestory windows to maximize day-lighting and winter heat gain. This reinforces the overall concept of maximizing views to the distant mountains and daylighting. Sun shading on the south façade also allows for a passive-solar strategy. Exterior materials include a heat-reflective galvalume roof, aluminum storefront glazing, and brick veneer. A geothermal systems aids with the energy required to heat and cool the structure.
